Former basketball international Mohammed Iqbal, a former Kerala captain, passed away in Kochi on Monday. He was 74.
Iqbal, who hailed from Kottayam and who came to the sport through the YMCA and Baselius College there, was the first player from Kerala to play in the Asian Championship (in Japan, 1971).
The captain of the Kerala team in 1973-74, Iqbal, also played a big role in bringing former players together through ‘Rebound’.
He was the president of ‘Rebound’, a players’ collective formed to promote the game since its inception in 2016.
