India’s quarterfinal chances dented after loss to China at FIBA Asia Cup 2025

The Indian men’s basketball team suffered a 69-100 defeat against powerhouse China in its FIBA Asia Cup 2025 Group C match at the King Abdullah Sports City in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

Mingxuan Hu and Jiayi Zhao were China’s top scorers with 17 points each, while Arvind Muthu Krishnan led India’s scoring with 16.

This was India’s second consecutive loss in the tournament, following a tightly contested defeat to Jordan on Tuesday. The result leaves Scott Flemming’s side at the bottom of the group standings, with their quarterfinal hopes hanging by a thread.

India must win its final group-stage match against host nation Saudi Arabia on Saturday to keep its qualification chances alive.

According to the tournament format, the group winners will advance directly to the quarterfinals. The second and third-placed teams will face off in a playoff to determine the remaining four quarterfinal spots.
