IPL 2025: Sai Sudharsan undeterred by LSG loss, eyes top-two finish for GT

The Lucknow Super Giants may have dented Gujarat Titans’ hopes of finishing in the top two in the League stage of IPL 2025 after inflicting a 33-run defeat on Thursday at the Narendra Modi Stadium here, but opener B. Sai Sudharsan isn’t on pins and needles yet.

“Right now, the most important thing is to finish in the top two so that we get an extra opportunity (of playing in Qualifier 2), if at all we need. The focus is more on that. Obviously, there are a lot of experiences and learnings in these 13 games (that we have played). So, we keep on filling the gaps wherever we feel like, and we will be ready for the Playoffs,” the Orange Cap holder said during the post-match press conference.

After the GT assignment, Sai Sudharsan will hop on a flight to Northampton alongside his IPL skipper Shubman Gill to represent India ‘A’ against the Lions. He said, “Mentally, we will have to be switched on for the IPL first. Once that story is over, then we can probably think about the India ‘A’ story. But (I am) definitely happy for that opportunity, and I think I would have a great time there.”

The 23-year-old, who has the experience of representing Surrey and scoring a century for the county side, may also make the cut for the senior squad ahead of the upcoming five-Test series in England, starting in June. The formal announcement is scheduled to be made on Saturday at a joint press meet held by India head coach, Gautam Gambhir, and chairman of selectors, Ajit Agarkar.
