Kevin Pietersen’s Big IPL Comeback — Here’s What You Need to Know
Former England cricketer Kevin Pietersen has been appointed as the team mentor for Delhi Capitals ahead of the 2025 season of the Indian Premier League.
Pietersen will join Hemang Badani (head coach), Matthew Mott (assistant coach), Munaf Patel (bowling coach), and Venugopal Rao (director of cricket) as part of the support staff for DC.
This will be Pietersen’s first coaching stint in the IPL. He last played in the league in 2016 for Rising Pune Supergiant. He has previously played for Delhi (then called Daredevils) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru and also captained both franchises across 17 games.
“I’m so excited to come home to Delhi! I have the fondest memories of my time with Delhi,” he wrote on social media.
“I love the city, I love the fans and I’ll do everything I can to support the franchise in our quest for the title in 2025!”
Delhi Capitals has strengthened its batting after signing K.L. Rahul, Faf du Plessis, Harry Brook, and Ashutosh Sharma. It also retained Jake Fraser-McGurk and brought in pacer Mitchell Starc during the 2025 IPL auction.
The IPL begins on March 22, with defending champion Kolkata Knight Riders taking on RCB at Eden Gardens.
DC will start its campaign against Lucknow Super Giants at the ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam on March 24. The Capitals finished sixth last season, missing out on a playoff spot.
