MI vs LSG, IPL 2025: Suryakumar, Bumrah star as Mumbai Indians make it five-in-five in Super Giants demolition

Suryakumar Yadav and Ryan Rickelton set the tone for the day before Jasprit Bumrah and Co. floored the opposition to help Mumbai Indians roll over Lucknow Super Giants and register its fifth consecutive win in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL).

On a sultry Sunday afternoon at the Wankhede Stadium, Suryakumar and Rickelton’s quickfire fifties ensured Mumbai Indians piled on 215 for seven to enthral 19,000 schoolkids watching the proceedings as part of the home side’s initiative.

It was Bumrah’s turn then to call his shots as an Impact Player as the seasoned pro returned with his best figures of the season. With Trent Boult being equally effective and Will Jacks’ offspin doing the trick yet again, the Super Giants folded for 161 in the last over.

MI vs LSG AS IT HAPPENED

Earlier in the day, Rickelton dominated the Powerplay before slashing leggie Digvesh Rathi to point on 58, Suryakumar took over in the middle overs. While Tilak Varma and captain Hardik Pandya struggled to get going at the other end after Jacks was undone by Prince Yadav, Suryakumar was in his element.

His overhead hook with a foot plonked into the ground off Prince’s medium pace was the shot of the day. Despite Suryakumar’s fifty, MI was in danger of ending up with a sub-par total. However, Naman Dhir and debutant Corbin Bosch’s cameos meant it comfortably crossed the mark, with Dhir ending the innings with a ramp shot for a six.

Bumrah became the leading wicket-taker for Mumbai Indians in the IPL, going past Lasith Malinga (170 wickets).

Rickelton and Suryakumar negated pacer Mayank Yadav’s good work on his return after seven months. He dismissed Rohit – who tonked consecutive sixes off his first two balls – off a wide one and then sneaked through Hardik’s defence at the start of the death overs.

During the chase, Mitchell Marsh and Nicholas Pooran kept LSG in the hunt in the Powerplay but Jacks turned the tide in the seventh over. The Englishman got rid of Pooran (mistimed to long-off for Suryakumar to complete the catch) and captain Rishabh Pant (miscued reverse-sweep) to virtually seal the deal. The door was shut in the 16th over with Bumrah accounting for Abdul Samad and David Miller.
